Informed Consent and Psychotherapy Services

Entering psychotherapy is a voluntary and collaborative process. The following information is provided to help clients make an informed decision about participating in counselling services with Zenia Turel Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Nature of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy involves discussing personal thoughts, emotions, experiences, and relationships in a safe and supportive environment. Evidence-based therapeutic approaches may be used and tailored to individual needs and goals.

Potential Benefits and Risks

Many clients experience improved insight, coping skills, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. However, therapy may also involve discussing difficult experiences or emotions, which can sometimes feel uncomfortable or distressing. Outcomes vary, and specific results cannot be guaranteed.

Voluntary Participation and Right to Withdraw

Participation in therapy is voluntary. Clients may ask questions, request changes to the treatment approach, or discontinue services at any time, subject to discussion of appropriate next steps or referrals if needed.

Confidentiality and Its Limits

All information shared in therapy is confidential except in circumstances required or permitted by law, including:

  • Risk of serious harm to self or others

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable person

  • Legal requirements such as court orders or subpoenas

  • Professional regulatory obligations

Fees, Cancellations, and Communication

Information regarding session fees, payment, cancellation policies, and communication practices will be provided separately through service agreements or intake documentation.
